Having started the police investigation into Sam's death, Fitzgerald heads to Tony and Rachel's house for some questioning. Upon receiving the news that Sam's dead, both of them are shocked, but nonetheless give an honest account of what they know - Tony admits that he saw Jack the night before at Stewart's Point and Rachel gives information about the distressed phonecall from Sam. Fitzgerald further tells them that the conclusion so far is that Sam drowned, but things soon change when a suicide note from Sam is discovered.
Now needing to reassess the conclusion of their findings, Constable Fitzgerald and Constable Hannah visit the site where Sam's suicide note was found, and while Hannah considers the possibility that the note may be falsified, Fitzgerald desperately wants to believe the opposite because of the fact that Jack might get into trouble. Later the case gets even more confusing, as Morag tells the cops about seeing Sam the night before, Martha divulges her call for help from Sam, and the autopsy reveals that there was no water in Sam's lungs, pointing to the fact that she didn't drown.
Elsewhere, a concerned Geoff wants to go visit Rory and is irked when Melody says she wants to go with, and Belle once again finds herself torn between her morals and her journalism.
